#StartupADL #Volunteer Spotlight: Event Management Team

Startup Weekend would not have been possible without our stellar volunteer team. In this blog post we will profile the members of this team. Let’s hope our words can do them justice.

Chris Hooper

Chris Hooper

Recently named “The Godfather of Startup Adelaide”, Chris is the Executive Director of Startup Weekend Adelaide. By day, he is an accountant at Cirillo Hooper & Co (yes, the irony of the Italian name is noted). Chris wanted to be involved in the Weekend because he “loves startups”. “I think entrepreneurship is the future of this state,” Chris said. He described his favourite Startup Weekend memory was meeting Alan Noble and Simon Hackett.

Samantha Lang

Unofficially, Sammie is Startup Weekend Adelaide’s Whistle Blower. Officially, she is the Weekend’s Event Organiser. By day, Sammie says she “grows businesses”. “I have been involved in Startup Weekend since the very first event,” Sammie said. “I love the community surrounding entrepreneurship and innovation”. Sammie said her best memory is watching people run to the stairwell when the whistle was blown at meal times.

Alyssa Sanders

By day, Alyssa studies tourism and event management, works at a bakery and plays lots of netball. Thankfully she still finds time to assist on our Events Team. “I am enjoying meeting new people and being in a very motivated, forward-moving environment,” Alyssa said. “I love the atmosphere of Startup Weekend and want to expand my event experience.” Alyssa said her favourite memory was seeing teams grow through the July Startup Weekend.

A family friend of Sammie’s, Rosa has just finished Year 11 and is keen to enter event management. It is no surprise that she leapt at the opportunity to volunteer at Startup Weekend. “I really enjoyed the pitching on Friday,” Rosa said. We are glad we are giving her some early event management experience while still in high school!

Kim is a Tourism and Event Management student at UniSA. She also enjoyed the pitches on Friday night especially with “people trying to condense their speeches to less than a minute”.

Candice is in the same UniSA Tourism and Event Management class as Alyssa. She said the highlight for her has been to “see new people come together to form business teams”.

We are really grateful for our volunteer team. Startup Weekend would not be possible without them.
